The meeting was called to order at 12:15pm by President Harry Metheny. All State officers were present. UOVC, ‘Eers, and MOV chapters all had members present. The newsletter has not been printed since the initial copy. Harry was made aware Julio has no computer at the present time and will continue the news letter when a computer becomes available. Since Julio was unable to attend this meeting, there was no update regarding the bumper stickers. It was determined since the website is up and running again, a member of the “Eers chapter would make sure Mike gets an updated application to place on the website. Harry asked for suggestions on topics to be covered at the next EBM which will be held in Charlestown the weekend of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Some of the topics suggested were: 1) Cell phone legislation 2) Helmet Law 3) First Aid for Bikers Safety Course for at the scene care 4) Reinstatement of patches and/or pins for chapter members 5) ABCC correspondence stating their attempt to discontinue poker runs It was suggested someone make a block of reservations for those attending the January, 2010 meeting. Paula Wright offered to handle this responsibility. Jeff Miller suggested Smiley’s Hotel. Denny Wright asked if there was a possibility Joe Tyree might speak at the meeting. Jeff Backus stated he would contact Joe and ask him if he was available. During open discussion, Wayne Harvey suggested the board think about an All-State Party. He explained how the Pennsylvania Party is handled and thought it would be a great idea for West Virginia. It was decided to take the suggestion back to each chapter and asked for volunteers from each chapter to work together to get the party planned. Mike Rowh from MOV chapter brought several copies of the new West Virginia bikers’ magazine “Thunder Roads”. The publisher is willing to print information given to him by ABATE Chapters as well as the State. It was decided the State Treasurer will provide a copy of the quarterly report to each chapter. This way all chapters can be aware of how the State is spending the money. All State Officers will be given an identification card stating their name and office held. This way, if necessary, they can provide proper identification. It was decided the State will pay for the cost of the larger ABATE patches. These patches will be given to members upon payment of their membership dues and they will also be sent a permanent membership card from the State Membership Coordinator. Prior to receipt of their permanent membership card, each chapter will issue the member a temporary card. Erin Cool reported the UOVC raised more than $915.00 for the Toys for Tots during the poker run in October. Several toys were donated as well. During September, the UOVC held the annual Big Jim Pittman run with the proceeds in excess of $1,100.00 going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Mike stated MOV chapter also supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation with their annual bike show and raised over $4,400.00. After a moment of silence for fallen comrades, the third quarter meeting was adjourned. |
